Adventures in Maya
Last semester I took a class about setting up characters for animation in Maya. I am primarily a 2D animator, but I am trying to improve my skills in the 3D world as well. It’s a little overwhelming sometimes because there are so many aspects; modeling, texturing, rigging, lighting and animation. I fear it would be easy to to try and learn them all and end up being mediocre in multiple disciplines instead of masterful in one, so I will continue to focus on animation and 2D. I will however, no doubt be trying my hand at 3D animation in the future when I can.
Anywho, the final project involved rigging a bipedal character (geometry was provided for us) and creating a simple animation to showcase the functionality of the rig. We were encouraged to include the rigged characters from earlier projects as well, here’s what I came up with:
